"In 2018, Bark detected a school shooting threat. Someone wrote it down, a student took a photo of it, and our AI extrapolated the handwritten data from the image, analyzed it, and flagged it. We then alerted the local school and the FBI who closed school for the day as a safety precaution.
As a result of this and other recent events, I’ve been telling as many people as I can about the fact that Bark is now free for schools. Last fall our initial pilot with 25 schools resulted in:
+131,510 issues discovered (an average of 3.22 per student)
- 492 instances of nudity/explicit content
- 300 children expressing self-harm or suicidal thoughts
- 6% of students involved in cyberbullying on school-issued Google accounts
- 2 shooting threats
- 124 instances of children using school accounts to buy, sell, or discuss illicit drugs
Again, this was all on school issued devices/accounts (Chromebooks, Gmail, Google Docs, GChat, etc.) the rates of these incidents occurring on tweens’ and teens’ personal devices and social media profiles are much higher.
If you want to get involved with what we are doing at Bark, please let me know. We welcome your input and support in our mission to keep children safer online, and do what we can to support their mental health.
For those of you who want to pass this along to schools or orgs, feel free to copy and paste this into a text or email to the principal/superintendent/head of IT/decision-maker: “This company is keeping tens of thousands of children safer on school-issued technology and I wanted to know if our school could sign up for this free program: https://www.bark.us/gsuite”
Also, here is a link to a flyer that you can download and print, or share via email/text: https://drive.google.com/…/1q5B2p2tc08wfO9JlbXu4AX0dZ…/view…
Finally, feel free to give anyone interested my email address if they would like to learn more before signing up: email@example.com
THANK YOU ALL! "
